As part of the commemoration of the 924th anniversary of Zen Master Dương Không Lộ’s passing, on July 14, 2018 (the 2nd day of the 6th lunar month, Year of the Dog), the Keo Pagoda Monastery organized the Bánh Bìa, Bánh Dày, and Bánh Phong Festival. This event aimed to continue the long-standing cultural traditions of the local people while expressing deep reverence toward the Holy Patriarch.

Over 300 Buddhist followers and residents from Duy Nhất and Vũ Tiến communes, Vũ Thư District, Thái Bình Province, participated in the festival, working together to make bánh bìa, bánh dày, and bánh phong. According to tradition, the custom of making these cakes has existed for over 400 years. However, due to historical circumstances, it was lost for a period of time. In 2014, with the consensus of the villagers and under the guidance of Venerable Thích Thanh Quang, the abbot of Keo Pagoda Monastery, the tradition was revived. The 2018 festival marked the second time this event was held on a large scale.

To prepare for the festival, many steps were taken weeks in advance. Those involved in the cake-making process had to maintain a state of purity to ensure food hygiene and safety. With the skillful hands and collective spirit of the local people, more than 15,000 bánh bìa, bánh dày, and bánh phong were produced at the highest quality as offerings to the Holy Patriarch.
