On the afternoon of July 25, 2018, at the Martyrs' Cemetery of Vu Tien Commune, Vu Thu District, Thai Binh Province, a solemn Grand Requiem Ceremony was held to honor the heroic martyrs on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947 – July 27, 2018). The ceremony was organized by the Party Committee, the People's Council, the People's Committee, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Vu Tien Commune in collaboration with Keo Pagoda Monastic Temple, Thai Binh.
The ceremony was honored by the presence of Venerable Thich Thanh Quang, the Abbot of Keo Pagoda – Thai Binh. Representing the local government were Mr. Ngo Hong Nam, Secretary of the Party Committee of Vu Tien Commune, and Mr. Tran Minh Tuan, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Vu Tien Commune, along with a large number of local residents and families of heroic martyrs.
In a solemn atmosphere, the entire assembly conducted a ceremony to offer prayers for the spirits of the deceased, a ritual to worship the Buddha, scripture recitation, and a life-release ceremony to pray for the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation. With the blessing of the Buddha, the spiritual dedication of the venerable monks, the recitation of sutras for the deceased, and the sincere devotion of all participants, prayers were made for the souls of the heroic martyrs and those who contributed to the country’s liberation to rest in peace in the Pure Land. Additionally, prayers were offered for world peace and the well-being of all people.
The Great Requiem Ceremony for heroic martyrs reflects the Buddhist spirit of gratitude and remembrance, embodying the Vietnamese cultural tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source.”
