Phạm Vân Anh, an 8th-grade student at Việt Hùng Secondary School, suffered a tragic accident on October 28, 2018, at her home in Mỹ Lộc I Hamlet, Việt Hùng Commune, Vũ Thư District, Thái Bình Province. The accident resulted in severe injuries, including fractures in both legs and damage to four spinal vertebrae. Doctors at Thái Bình General Hospital diagnosed her condition as critical, stating that without timely surgery, she would permanently lose the ability to walk. Understanding the family’s financial difficulties, Dr. Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, Head of the Neurosurgery and Spine Department, requested the hospital administration collaborate with social organizations to ensure the surgery could proceed promptly. At noon on October 31, 2018, the surgery was successfully performed, and Phạm Vân Anh’s health gradually stabilized. However, the cost of surgery and post-operative rehabilitation posed a significant financial burden on her family.
With a spirit of compassion and the Vietnamese tradition of mutual support, the Charity and Social Work Committee of Tổ Đình Chùa Keo – Thái Bình, under the leadership of Venerable Thích Thanh Quang, contributed 5,000,000 VND (five million VND) to the fundraising program. After the campaign concluded, generous donors collectively raised 49,721,0000(forty-nine million seven hundred twenty-one thousand VND).
Following the fundraising event at Việt Hùng Secondary School, representatives from the Vũ Thư District Red Cross Society, the Charity and Social Work Committee of Tổ Đình Chùa Keo – Thái Bình, the school’s administration, the teachers’ union, and local authorities visited Thái Bình General Hospital to offer their encouragement. They presented a symbolic donation check to Phạm Vân Anh’s mother and officially transferred the funds to the hospital’s social work department. The collected amount covered all medical and surgical expenses. Any remaining funds, after settling hospital bills, would be given directly to the family under the supervision of the Red Cross Society and the school administration.
With the collective support of social organizations and kindhearted individuals, we hope that Phạm Vân Anh will recover quickly and return to her studies.
