In order to meet the spiritual and recreational needs of young Buddhist students, both from within and outside Duy Nhat Commune, and to instill the spirit of compassion, wisdom, and the essence of Dharma in them, the Summer Retreat was organized. With the support of various levels of the Buddhist Sangha, the guidance of esteemed monks and nuns from temples and monasteries, as well as the cooperation of local authorities, this event aimed to cultivate the desire for self-improvement, the pursuit of knowledge, and a dedication to virtuous living among the youth.
On July 11, 2016 (the 8th day of the 6th lunar month in the Year of the Monkey), the Keo Pagoda Monastery – Than Quang Temple, located in Duy Nhat Commune, Vu Thu District, Thai Binh Province, held the grand opening of the Summer Retreat for young people with the theme: "HAPPINESS IN THE PRESENT MOMENT." The retreat lasted 7 days, from July 10 to July 16, 2016.
The retreat program included various activities such as Dharma talks on topics including "Happiness in the Present Moment," "Ethics in Today's Society," "Finding Yourself," and "Finding Direction in Life." There were also sessions discussing "The Life of Buddha Shakyamuni," daily chanting ceremonies, a candlelight ceremony to express gratitude, tea meditation, Buddhist cultural exchanges, games, and experiential activities such as "Overcoming Yourself" and "Living Differently."
With a unique and engaging format, the summer retreat at Keo Pagoda Monastery created a healthy and beneficial space for the youth. The program hoped to equip them with comprehensive knowledge about Buddhist teachings and social issues. Through spiritual practice, the retreat aimed to guide the youth in transforming and refining their body and mind, helping them discover their true life goals and ideals.
